Some students had a chance to watch four hot air balloons launch from the edge of the school playground area this morning. What a fun way to start the day!

Nov.25-27
Remember!
- Early dismissal on Wednesday (2:00)
- No school Thursday or Friday (Happy Thanksgiving!)
This week we are spending time talking about Thanksgiving and reviewing skills that we have been working on with letters and numbers. It is always a good idea to practice letter naming and number recognition at home. So far this year, students have been taught to recognize numbers 1-10 and the following letters & sounds: f, s, m, a, l, d, r, n, p, c, v. A good way to practice this at home is by making flashcards and turning it into a game such as "go fish" or "memory". It is also fun to play "I Spy" (I spy the letter that says /f/, can you find it?) We continue to review these skills at school but the best way for your child to grow is by practicing at home as well. Thanks for all of your support! Have a great Thanksgiving break!

Nov.18-22
This week in Reading we are learning about jobs and what tools workers need to do certain jobs. Talk with you child about your job and jobs in your community. We are also talking about breaking words into syllables. The students will enjoy clapping the syllables of new words.
In math this week we are talking about 3D shapes and their characteristics. Find objects in your home that are the following shapes: sphere, cylinder, rectangular prism, and cones. Ask your child to sort common objects or compare the difference between two different objects' shapes.
The best way for your child to succeed is to continue the learning at home. We are a team!

About Me
Teaching background... I always knew that I wanted to be a
teacher when I “grew up”. I constantly played school as a child, volunteered in elementary classrooms and worked in daycare settings throughout high school. I love to help children learn about the world and see their faces light up when they discover new things. I attended The University of South Dakota and graduated in May 2012 with a Bachelors degree in Elementary Education and an endorsement in Kindergarten education. I had the wonderful opportunity to student teach in a Kindergarten classroom at Fred Assam Elementary in the Spring of 2012. I spent last school year teaching Title I Reading at Fred Assam and began this year in Title I as well. I am looking forward to starting this new adventure as your child’s Junior Kindergarten teacher.
My family...I married my best friend, Jason in June of 2012. Jason and I live in Garretson with our 5 year old black lab, Marley. He keeps us quite busy and if that isn’t enough we are also expecting our first child at the beginning of June. We couldn’t be more excited! Jason is a farmer and also works for Central Valley Dairy Supply in Brandon. He enjoys spending time hunting and fishing and is also a member of the Garretson volunteer fire department. In our spare time we enjoy golfing, going to movies, spending time with family and friends, traveling and going out to eat at new restaurants.
I am absolutely thrilled about teaching your child this year in Junior Kindergarten. We are sure to learn a lot while having tons of fun along the way! Please feel free to email me at any time. leah.williamson@k12.sd.us
